Acetone has been shown by scientific studies to be a reliable and real-time indicator of a healthy individual's fat metabolism during dieting and exercise regimens. Breath acetone may be used to monitor post weight loss-surgery patients and patients on ketogenic diets to control epilepsy. Unintentionally elevated breath acetone levels can also occur as a result of clinical conditions such as uncontrolled type 1, 2 and gestational diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis , and hyperthyroidism.
